Funke Mediengruppe, located in Essen, is Germany's largest regional newspaper publisher.
The publisher is on course to become Germany's premier publishing house. Its focus is on three particular business segments: regional media, women’s magazines and programme guides. More than 1,500 journalists and around 4,500 so-called “media producers” work for Funke.
Domestically, the company publishes daily newspapers in Berlin, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia, including titles such as Berliner Morgenpost, Braunschweiger Zeitung, Hamburger Abendblatt, Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung and Thüringer Allgemeine.
Funke is one of the largest providers within the magazine segment. Its portfolio includes titles such as Hörzu, TVdirekt and Bild der Frau. It also includes numerous puzzle magazines and special journals as well as lifestyle magazines. The Funke Group also gives away the leading advertising supplements from all of its daily newspaper retail locations.
In the digital segment, Funke has built up a network of specialist job portals like ABSOLVENTA and joblocal. It is also a majority stakeholder in MEDIA PARTISANS, making it a major provider within the German market in the publishing and social media sector. The company is also involved in the Austrian newspaper market (Kronen Zeitung, Kurier). Funke is also responsible for hosting two prestigious events in the form of the GOLDENE KAMERA and GOLDENE BILD der FRAU awards.
